Scott & Tracey’s Building Journey – Post Handover

Hello Everyone

It’s been a while since we posted on here, but we wanted to share some happy snaps with you of our newly finished home. We will do one more video so you can see the finished product, but we are still organising landscaping for the backyard, and want to wait til that is complete before we show you!

So, first thing first. The elevation. I am very happy with the colours we chose. We copied them from the Dale Alcock Display Home in Yanchep, the Parkdale. As soon as I saw that home I knew that those were the colours I wanted for our house. I always had my heart set on the red front door, and thought that those colours would work well together. Tracey was nice enough to let me win that debate (she wasnt convinced on a red front door) but she agrees that it looks good and I personally love it! What do you think?

Our Elevation

This is our open living area. I love this room. The floors look amazing (we went with mocha coloured bamboo). The whole room just reminds me of a New York apartment. Its great! We just need to get some window treatments. We are thinking curtains for the two big sliding doors and roman blinds for the windows either side of the TV.

Main Living Area

And finally is Tommy’s favourite room. This is the games room in the kids wing. I love this room because we just get to close the double doors and all of Tommy’s mess is hidden from view. Tommy loves it because he now has his own TV and DVD player and gets to watch the Play School Concert over and over and over again! The first words out of his mouth every morning is “School” as he love to eat his breakfast and sing a long to all the songs he has learned. It’s very cute.

Scott and Tracey’s Building Journey – Pre-handover Meeting

We are soooo close I can almost taste it! The last week or so before handover is a strange time. You can’t wait to get in, but you suddenly realise how much you have to organise. We are going to do our own painting (with the help of Tracey’s Dad who is a painter by trade), so we need to start getting the colours finalised and organising dates for when we will get in and start the job. We also need to organise installation dates for the bamboo flooring and the carpets. Then there is the side gates, the window treatments and of course organising moving day! We have heaps of good friends and family who we will bribe to help us move with some pizza and beer. It’s going to be a hectic few weeks, but it will be totally worth it when we get in.

Pre-handover was pretty thorough, Tony was great, very meticulous, we spotted a few cosmetic issues like a couple of chips in the walls, a mark on the laundry cupboard door, and a few other minor things, but nothing major. Ive been really happy with how smooth the process has been. So what happens now is the issues get fixed, then we meet our client liaison officer at Dale Alcock Central for the official key handover next week.

As always, if you have any questions you want to ask me, just post a comment. – Scott

Scott and Tracey’s Building Journey – Lock Up Meeting

This is lock up. It doesnt take a genius to figure out this is when they add locks to the doors to secure the house. As you will see in the video the house is now starting to look more and more like a home. The kitchen cabinets are in and everything is starting to look more finished.

The fact that Dale Alcock Homes organise a meeting with your Site Supervisor at this point is pretty handy as I have heard that some builders dont do this. It is good to refresh your memory as to all those choices you made back at prestart, like tile colours, elevation colours and even the front door colour, which our supervisor was suprised to see is going to be bright red! I told him to trust me, it will look good, I’ve seen it on a couple of display homes around the place and they look awesome!

Anyway, it was great to have that meeting as the tile company delivered the wrong border tile, so we picked that up in the meeting and it is getting replaced with the right one. That would have been a nightmare had we not noticed it until after they had been laid and a great example of why this meeting is such a good idea.

So take a look at the video and see where we are at…post a comment if you have any questions and i will reply. Scott

Scott and Tracy’s Building Journey – Float and Set

We are now at the ‘Float and Set’ stage. Thats the official term, I prefer to think of it as the ‘walls being covered’ stage. I have to admit it makes a huge difference when you walk into the house, when everything is so white it makes the place feel huge.

In this video I make mention of the electrical plan. This is the best bit of advice I can give to someone thinking about building. Make sure you really think about where you want the powerpoints, and how many you need. It’s not that expensive to have extra’s added at prestart and it is amazing just how many appliances you have if you sit down and think about it. Even little things like the height of powerpoints should be considered (you might not always want them so close to the floor).

I also mention light switch location. I was sure I had considered all possibilities here (like having a switch for the hall near the front door, but also by our bedroom door so you can switch it off without having to walk back down the hallway), but I did miss one two-way switch that I changed as a small variation during construction.

It’s an exciting stage to be at, the place is really coming together. Cant wait for the next stage!

Scott and Tracey’s Building Journey – Roof Stage

We have just got back from our wedding in Bali, and it was just awesome! 30 of our closest friends and family shared the day with us and it was so much fun.

We were pleased to see the progress on the house when we got home, I made Tracey drive past on our way back from the airport at 3am to see how it was going! It’s really starting to take shape, the roof makes a real difference. It helps you get a feel for the actual size of each room.

So now we need to start putting some serious thought into how we are going to finish the place. We have a few key things we need to start researching, timber floors, carpets, air con, window treatments. We will try and film some of it for you and ask lots of questions.

For now, check out the roof and the new tour!

After the brick tour, this tour gives you a better idea of our home. Check it out…
